From April 28th to May 1st 2019, Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU) held its annual conference in Ottawa, Ontario. And for the second year in a row, Kearns Technology Inc. (KTI) attended and this time we brought a booth!
The KTI crew arrived in Ottawa on the 28th and set up shop at the conference on the 29th. The conference started with a bang! Or at least there was a bang on our TV’s shipping truck and the on-site crew had to scramble to replace it before the conference began in earnest.
Over the course of the 4 day CBTU conference we met some old friends from the escalator and elevator trades union IUEC Local 89 and some new friends from other trades. Our elevator and escalator friends were happy to point out some of the inaccuracies in an older build of Elesim (a gamified construction training simulator we built for elevator and escalator tradespeople). We also had the chance to fix one of their laptops while we were there, as they were nice enough to ask!
Besides making some connections with CBTU Conference goers, our crew also had a Trudeau sighting. He was there to address the conference and answer questions in an armchair discussion.
We want to extend a big thanks to Canada’s Building Trades Unions for hosting us at the 2019 CBTU Conference and for all of our union friends for stopping by the booth. We are so proud to do business with and be a part of trade union culture in Canada. Hope to see you next year in Ottawa!
